‘Yo-yo diets’, or ‘weight cycling’ studies by the University of Exeter and Bristol indicate that they not only do not work, they may cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol and gallbladder disease. 

“Our work suggests that eating only slightly less than you should, all the time, and doing physical exercise is much more likely to help you reach a healthy weight than going on low-calorie diets,” said Andrew Higginson at the University of Exeter and Bristol.
