Everyone of us is unique. We have all had different life experiences and we react to them differently too.
The old way to treat phobia’s was called ‘desensitisation’. It involved exposing the sufferer to the very thing that triggered their fear, over and over again. It risked re-traumatizing the patient, or making the problem even worse. The technique was expensive, time-consuming and often unsuccessful. However some therapists still use this archaic method.
Another method popular with some counsellors is to talk about it. Then talk about it some more, for weeks, months and even years, if you are prepared to continue paying for sessions. The results speak for themselves.
