The typical tobacco smoker smokes around one packet, or more every day. Meanwhile, the price of the product increases twice every year in Australia as increased government taxes push the price toward $50 per pack.
Judy Kerrison said her grandchild commented on how much cigarettes were after watching someone buy them, so she decided to make it a teachable moment.
“We made a challenge… smoking v eating challenge,” Ms Kerrison posted.
“…grandkids and I tried to purchase the most value for money ‘basic’ food items and the most popular cigarette brand … they were surprised at the amount of food you can buy for the same monetary value.”
The price of tobacco products varies greatly from one country to the other. But one thing remains constant. The out-of-pocket-expenses of tobacco impact upon our overall cost of living. Health risks aside, can you afford to smoke?
