Those ‘addicts’ have been tricked by years of false advertising based not on science but marketing. “If you repeat a lie often enough, people will come to believe it, and they will be prepared to die for it,” said Nazi Minister for Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.

If nicotine did only half the things attributed to it (such as increasing concentration, relaxation, overcoming anxiety, boredom, stress, and negative emotions) drug companies would have synthesized the active ingredients, and mass-produced a range of new wonder drugs. but they haven’t … because none of it is actually true. Many people say they smoke ‘to relax’. How is that possible when nicotine is a stimulant? It makes the heartbeat faster. In fact, in a large dose, it can cause a heart attack. (The gas in tobacco smoke is carbon monoxide which starves the brain of oxygen and kills brain cells. Chemically the so called ‘relaxation’ is the brain starving of oxygen).

Could we (your doctor included) possibly be victims of a massive scam?  In the University published text book “A Critique of Nicotine Addiction” by doctors Hana Frenk Ph.D and Reuven Dar Ph.D of the Department of Psychology. Tel Aviv University, they explain ….

“Nicotine is almost universally believed to be the major factor that motivates smoking and impedes cessation (quitting). Authorities such as the Surgeon General of the USA and the Royal College of Physicians in the UK have declared that nicotine is as addictive as heroin and cocaine. (Well, that’s good enough for your doctor. He will not read anymore after that) This book is a critique of the nicotine addiction hypothesis (or theory), based on a critical review of the research literature that ‘purports to prove’ that nicotine is an addictive drug. The review is based on a re-examination of more than 700 (scientific) articles, and books on this subject, including animal and human experimental studies, effects of ‘nicotine replacement therapies’, and many other relevant sources. This review concludes that on the evidence, there is EVERY REASON TO REJECT THE GENERALLY ACCEPTED THEORY (Note: it was only ever a theory) THAT NICOTINE HAS A MAJOR ROLE IN CIGARETTE SMOKING. (those are my capitals – not theirs). A critical examination of the criteria for drug addiction demonstrates that NONE OF THESE CRITERIA (again those are my capitals) is met by nicotine and that it is much more likely that nicotine in fact limits rather than facilitates smoking.”

A study by the Queen Mary University of London and published in the New England Journal of Medicine into the effectiveness of Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) such as patches, gum, lozenges and sprays, and nicotine E-Cigarettes has found;

  • The trial recruited people who were committed to quit tobacco smoking.
  • Participants in the trial also received free weekly one-on-one behavioral support for the first month of the study.
  • The study participants received free Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) such as patches, gum, lozenges, and sprays.
  • Around 90 percent of NRT users had relapsed back into smoking, within a year.
  • More than 80 percent of E-Cigarette users had relapsed back into smoking tobacco again, within a year.
  • 8 out of 10 e-cigarette users who quit tobacco smoking successfully, and did not relapse, were still vaping at the end of the 12 months trial. They had simply transferred their bad habit from one to the other. They did not overcome it.
  • So fewer than 2 in every one hundred people in the study quit tobacco smoking AND vaping. I think that is a very poor outcome, when ‘cold turkey’ can get a 5 percent success rate.
  • TV ads falsely claim that NRT is ‘two and a half times better’. Better than what? The small print says … better than nothing at all. (Two and a half times nothing is still nothing.)
  • These results reflect similar results in other trials.

Studies have shown that fresh and processed ripe potatoes and tomatoes contain nicotine, while eggplant (aubergines) has the highest level by far. More than 60 different plants, including many vegetables, contain nicotine. 

  • Aubergine. For every gram of aubergine, there is 100 µg of nicotine.

  • Potatoes. Ripening and green potatoes contain about 42 µg/gram of nicotine. If you decide to mash your potatoes or puree them, it can also increase the nicotine concentration to around 52 µg/gram!

  • Tea. Some brewed and instant teas (both black and green) contain nicotine, with concentrations as high as 285 µg/gram.

  • Tomatoes contain around 7.1 µg/gram of nicotine. Green tomatoes have a higher concentration of nicotine.

  • Cauliflowers are not in the nightshade plant family, never-the-less they contain nicotine – around 16.8 µg/gram.

  • Green Peppers contain upwards of 9.2 µg/gram of nicotine.

“How many people do you know who are addicted to vegetables? If we consume nicotine in various vegetables, then why are not some people at least addicted to the nicotine in their vegetables? 

Some Australian Aboriginal ‘bush tucker’ (Solanaceae: Nicotiana) contains nicotine, with up to twice the concentration of tobacco.

I think, most people would be shocked to learn that nicotine is not restricted to tobacco when in fact it is found in many plants in various concentrations. You have been eating nicotine most of your life. Do you think you are addicted to vegetables that contain nicotine, and not those that do not?

An analysis in the UK medical journal Lancet found of 42 university-based studies from around the world into 42 NRT gum (30 followed up at 12 months, 12 at 6 months) and 9 patch (NRT) studies (followed up at 12 months) reported that the mean gain (average) in quitting attributed to ‘nicotine replacement‘ was only  8 percent. that is even less than the placebo study results. “… the long‐term benefit of NRT is modest.”

In 2003, Dr. John R. Hughes and Dr. Saul Shiffman as paid consultants to GlaxoSmithKline, the maker of Nicorette, Nicoderm CQ, and NiQuitin CQ, published a report entitled “A meta-analysis of the efficacy of over-the-counter nicotine replacement.” In that publication, they reported only 1 out of 149 nicotine transdermal patch users were still not smoking six months after using the patch.

Remember inhaling tobacco smoke causes cancer in the majority of long-term smokers. Is chewing nicotine any safer? New genetic research from the U.K.’s Medical Research Council suggests that nicotine-replacement drugs like nicotine gum and lozenges could raise the risk of mouth cancer, Medical News Today

On this, and other evidence in the premier medical journal in the world, how can doctors honestly recommend NRT? The real reason is … family doctors recommend to their patients what the drug companies tell them to sell. Drug companies give the local doctor false and misleading information which has been labeled ‘junk science’ by independent researchers.

NRT products such as patches and gum also have unpleasant side effects for many people, such as skin rash, headaches, and vomiting. The cost, inconvenience, and very high failure rate make NRT a waste of time and effort because nicotine is NOT addictive.

There is far more scientific evidence to prove nicotine is not physically addictive including, for example …

“No studies involving animals, such as rats and mice, have been able yo capture the experience of human smoking and nicotine addiction. “Studies DO NOT (those are my capitals – not theirs) provide unequivocal evidence for nicotine producing reward either via euphoric actions or through reduction of pain, anxiety, or negative affect” Ref. page 20. Journal of Drug Issues. publication  (200}-04-01.

As part of my research, I visited a pharmacy and while reading the small print on packets of NRT (nicotine transdermal patches, gum, lozenges, and sprays) a young pharmacy assistant approached me offering to help. “This one is the most popular,” she said.

“I am confused,’ I lied. “I smoke a 4 mg cigarette. The label says I must start with a 21 mg patch for 4 weeks, then cut down to 16 mg for another 4 weeks, then cut down to 12 mg for another 4 weeks. Then I am weaned off. But I am already on 4 mg. I just want to go 4, 3, 2, 1 and none. How can I be weaned off at 12 mg when I am already at 4mg?” 

“I don’t know,” she said, adding. “Let me get the pharmacist.”

“I don’t know how they work,” he angrily replied to my question. “Just buy the 21 mg patches. I don’t have time for these stupid questions.” 

Talking of pharmacists who have no idea, and just want to make a quick $ale. I had a client come to me to quit smoking. She told me she went to a pharmacist and followed his advice. She purchased the 21 mg patches and the 16 mg patches and used them according to the instructions.

She told me that for 8 weeks she was ‘climbing the walls’ with withdrawals. Her husband (a non smoker) almost divorced her because she had become ‘the bitch from hell’.

After struggling through she went back to buy the final pack of patches from the pharmacist. “Oh. We don’t sell those,” he said. “There is no demand. You are the only person to have got as far as you have. everyone else gives up and starts smoking again.” She told me she could hardly stop herself from grabbing him by the neck and squeezing the life out of him. She quit smoking the day she saw me without any withdrawals.

Local general practitioner doctors and pharmacists, as salespeople for the drug companies are spoon fed lies and deceit interspersed with real amazing medications that actually work for many people.  Their training is chemistry. They are not interested in researching the facts about the products they peddle. They trust the drug companies. 

As consumers you should not. It is your physical body and mind they are playing with. Do you own research and get the facts. I expect you to question everything I have said here.

The nicotine addiction was only psychological. It was a trick designed to make money by the drug companies who make NRT from unsuspecting smokers. It also kept many smokers psychologically trapped (and still does) within an illusion. “If you repeat a lie often enough, people will come to believe it, and they will be prepared to die for it,” said Nazi Minister for Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.

As a result of inhouse research done by Philip Morris they began using ammonia to reduce the concentration of nicotine by weight in Marlboro in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Because nicotine is acrid to taste this made Marlboro a better smoking taste than its opposition. Hense, they used the advertsing slogan “Come to where the flavor is – Marlboro Country”.

Philip Morris went from a tobacco company with no leading brands (the top sellers at that time were ‘Lucky Strike’, ‘Camel’, ‘Pall Mall’ and ‘Chesterfield’. None had filters because market segmentation meant that men did not need filters). Suddenly Marlboro appeared as a man cigarette with a filter, and it shot to number one worldwide.  The former market leaders were stunned senseless. Philip Morros adopted the technology to all their brands and became the biggest tobacco company across the world.  Then they started buying other food and beverage companies including Kraft. Nabisco and Cadbury. They brew beer, make wine and vapes (E-cigarettes). I think they owned Coke at one time?

The other tobacco companies scrabbled to find the secret to the Marlboro man’s success. In part it was the first man’s cigarette to have a filter. But the real secret was freebasing nicotine with ammonia during manufacture. By the 1970’s they were all doing the same. Have you noticed that in those days’ smokers had orange/brown nicotine stains on their fingers and moustaches? Now they don’t. The reason is simple.

They took out much of the nicotine while no one was watching, yet people still think they are addicted to the nicotine in tobacco.

Now the US government wants the tobacco companies to reduce the amount of nicotine in their products. Why? To be seen to be doing something without really doing anything. Political smoke and mirrors.

Fact: Nicotine is a poison.

Solution: Require a doctor’s prescription for ‘addicts’ and make it only available from a pharmacy.

Problem: Political influence by multi-national companies who are making ma$$ive profits.

Self-confidence is the belief in oneself and abilities, it describes an internal state made of what we think and feel about oneself. It is a self-evaluation or judgment.

The level of one’s own self-confidence can be observed in the way you carry yourself – behavior, body language, what you say and how you say it.

Confidence is a belief in one’s own ability to successfully perform a task. However, it does not necessarily mean there is an emphasis upon the outcome of the task, as much as the enjoyment and experience of it.

Confident individuals inspire others. They are often perceived as successful role models because people admire them. Related words include self-assurance, braveness, boldness, buoyancy, self-confidence, poise, self-reliantly, and tenacity,

A lack of self- confidence can become a self-fulfilling prophecy as one may self-sabotage one’s self and not attempt to win when the ability and opportunity are accessible. Low self-confidence is negative. It can be self-destructive. Related words include apprehension, cowardice, distrust, doubt, fear, hesitation, timidity, uncertainty, and weakness.

Self-confidence is founded upon a good balance between ability and the reality of informed risk. Under-confident people are either not prepared to take risks, or are self-defeatist. They underrate their own ability and overrate the risk. Over-confident people overrate their own ability, while underestimating the risk.

Self-confident people do not need to ‘win’ to feel fulfillment. They understand that ‘failure’ is only ‘feedback’ – a learning experience.

In the early 1980s, psychologist and author Dov Eden published the first in a series of extraordinary research results.

He could tell which soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would become top performers before they even started training.

In one study he examined comprehensive assessments of almost 1000 soldiers who were about to arrive for training with their platoons.

He had their aptitude test scores, evaluations during basic training, and appraisals from previous commanders.

Using this information alone, which was gathered before the beginning of training for the special forces, he was able to identify a group of high-potential trainees who would emerge as stars.

And sure enough, the candidates Eden spotted as high-potentials at the outset did ‘significantly better’ than their peers over the 3 months of training.

So… How did Dov Eden select the high-potentials? Did he get an insight from their aptitude tests?

Surprisingly not at all!

Did he get an inclination based on a soldier’s appraisal from a previous commander?

Not that either!

Did he, perhaps, have statistics built up from other evaluations?

None at all.

Turns out the psychologist Dov Eden just picked the names of those soldiers at RANDOM!

Then the chosen soldier’s were notified they had been assessed as high-potentials.

And the training officers of the Israel Defense Forces were also told which soldiers had the identified as high-potentials.

Then it was all just a matter of self belief and they were able to Welcome Self-Fulfillment.

There’s a lesson here;

Our unconscious mind gathers information to create beliefs. These beliefs drive our behaviors and emotions too. Our unconscious mind is the ‘foreman’ of the metabolism. So, we can create unconscious emotions and beliefs to Self Confidence.

As a young boy I was bereft of confidence. I recognized other boys had confidence, sureness, spunk, determination – all the qualities we see in confident people. I struggled through my school days against my own internal foes that controlled me.

I now realize my father had no confidence either. He was the youngest child in a large family dominated by a strict father and older brothers. He suffered from Aspergers Syndrome (undiagnosed) and was the most introverted person I have ever known. He had left school at the age of 12. As a role model he gave me zero confidence because he had none for himself. More often than not he would fall to pieces if talking to a stranger. His voice cracking, his body language betraying his inner thoughts and feelings. What chance did I have?

Luckily for me, my parents sent me away to boarding school for 7 years. There I was influenced by the other boys I lived with, and the various House Masters and teachers who taught me a different way to think and feel. It took time, years and years. In time something blossomed within me – self-confidence.

Initially my grades were dreadful. But as my confidence grew so did my grades. At the start of every school year, they expected I would fail, and every year I passed. Not only that, I began to excel. I did the impossible and achieved university entrance grades in my final exams. This was only possible because of my growing self-confidence and belief in myself.

Recently, when meeting old school friends, they told me how I inspired them. They said they saw me succeed and do the impossible. Now, as I look back over the years, I recognize many things I have done and achieved that still amaze me.

Those ‘milestones’ in my life may have been difficult. they may have been uncomfortable, even painful – but I did them. And every one of them built my self-confidence even more, like bricks in a wall.

Doctor Joseph spoke about his experiences as a sports coach.

He said, “believe in yourself to accomplish any task no matter the odds, no matter the difficulty, no matter the adversity”. He added “self confidence is the belief that you can accomplish it”.

Self Confidence is a skill that can be learnt, not in an instant, not over night ”because it takes repetition, repetition and more repetition”.

“Do it a thousand times to develop the (particular) skill (you want to develop). It takes practice”, he said. He used the word “persistence”.

The second most important thing in developing self confidence he said is to use positive self-talk. Say it the way you want it. Get away from people who choose to tear you down. You do not need or want their negativity.

Doctor Joseph said, “Our thoughts influence our actions, and our own self beliefs”. Use positive affirmations to build your own self confidence and self-beliefs about yourself.

Mistakes are only learning opportunities. They are only mistakes if you never learn from them. As a coach he said, coaches fix players mistakes. So be your own life coach.

He suggested you write a sincere letter to yourself listing all your qualities and skills you are most proud. Then when you are feeling down, bring it out and read it to yourself aloud.

Do it right, then do it the same way again and again. Give zero energy to the negative.

The third and final message Doctor Joseph had about self-confidence was “Self-confident people interpret life the way they choose, they look for the positive in everything”.

Some words associated with enthusiasm include … craze, as in the latest craze. Buzz, trend, fad and in vogue have the same meanings too. Infatuation, lust and crush are used in a romantic sense. Cult, movement or fervor may be used when talking about political or religious enthusiasm.  

However, in modern terms perhaps the words that best align with enthusiasm are eagerness, excitement and passion for. I also like gusto, zeal, avidness and hunger.

Surround yourself with positive people who have the same or similar aspirations as yourself. Avoid negative people who only want to drag you down to their level, even if they are long term friends. Never allow them to influence your decisions, so better to ‘keep them in the dark’ on a ‘need to know’ basis.

Keep in mind that ‘stuck’ people are fearful. They are not prepared to take calculated risks.

My own father would make a decision and stick to it it through thick and thin. The truth is he lacked flexibility to shift according to new information. He did not always consider all the facts when making a decision and he paid the price.

My mother now aged 100 was a nurse during WW2 and until she married.

On the other hand, my mother was a nurse, (her father was a Naval officer) she carefully evaluates the ‘advantages’ and ‘disadvantages’ before committing. She was frustrated by my father’s ‘gung-ho’ attitude. Yet they lived a long and successful marriage together. He lived well into his 80’s and she is now in her 100th year and still going strong.

In my own military training as an officer in the Australian Regular Army we learnt to use the best information (intelligence) when planning tactics. We would study all the available options and their relative ‘advantages and disadvantages, taking into careful consideration our resources and timings before committing to a decision. 

My advice to you is evaluate all reasonable possible risks. Consult widely as possible. Do your ‘due diligence’ (the investigation or exercise of care that a reasonable business or person is normally expected to take before entering into an agreement or contract with another party or an act with a certain standard of care), you research and make decisions with a level head. 

Be flexible to change course wherever possible when circumstances change.

Do what you know best and do it better than others. as they say, “A job worth doing is worth doing well’. Give it 100  per cent and see it through to successful completion with confidence.

Above all else believe in yourself. Organize and plan your actions around motivated success. Prioritize with consideration of your strengths, with enthusiasm and passion to win. You will discover that success builds confidence.

If one particular style of thought stands out about creative genius, it is the ability to make juxtapositions (that is placing two or more things side by side often to compare, or contrast, or to create an interesting result) between dissimilar subjects. Call it a facility to connect the unconnected that enables them to see things to which others are blind.

For example, Archimedes of Syracuse stepped into a bath and noticed that the water level rose, whereupon he suddenly realized the volume of water displaced must be equal to the volume of the part of his body he had submerged. This relation is not what is known as Archimedes’ principle—that deals with the upthrust experienced by a body immersed in a fluid. He then realized that the volume of irregular objects could be measured with precision, a previously intractable problem. How many people had stepped into a bath and never thought of the principal? Answer. Thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions. But it took his genius to put A and B together and get C.

Archimedes anticipated modern calculus and analysis by applying concepts of infinitesimals and the method of exhaustion to derive and rigorously prove a range of geometrical theorems, including the area of a circle, the surface area and volume of a sphere, and the area under a parabola. Other mathematical achievements include deriving an accurate approximation of pi, defining and investigating the spiral bearing his name, and creating a system using exponentiation for expressing very large numbers. He was also one of the first to apply mathematics to physical phenomena, founding hydrostatics and statics, including an explanation of the principle of the lever. He is credited with designing innovative machines, such as his screw pump, compound pulleys, and defensive war machines to protect his native Syracuse from invasion.

This is an example of the distinguishing characteristic of genius – immense creative productivity.

The genius mind is constantly combining and recombining ideas, images and thoughts into different combinations at all levels of their consciousness. 

The genius mind is able to think different thoughts because they can tolerate ambivalence between opposites or two incompatible subjects.

For the genius mind, an accident or mistake provokes the question: “What have we done? ‘What is this an example of?’ Answering that question is the essential creative act. Creative geniuses do not wait for the gifts of chance; instead, they actively seek their accidental discovery.

Synonyms for the word genius (in nonsensical sentences) include: ability or accomplishment also acumen & aptitude. Also brilliance and flair or  imagination and ingenuity plus inspiration. Intelligence and perhaps inventiveness or knack and originality with prodigy or prowess and talent with wisdom such as Einstein. Acuteness to adept or aptness & astuteness, Bent and brain or capability or capacity with creativity and discernment some say endowment. It is an expert  faculty with grasp and head for inclination and power with precocity and with propensity, and reach & sagacity to turn also understanding & virtuoso & mature & percipience, & super ability

One thing in particular that separates humanity from all the other animals on planet earth is the ability to use our minds to change and adapt to our environment, and to improve our lives from one generation to the next. No other animal species has ever been able to do this, and perhaps no other animal species ever will.

Over the past several hundred thousand years there have been various ‘human’ species that have become extinct. They failed to adapt to their changing environment, and they failed to exist. They became extinct, as have thousands of other animal species.

The Climate Change currently occurring on planet earth is nothing new. It has happened before, except it may be happening faster now, because of the effects of the Industrial Revolution that we humans created.

Other animal species have and will continue to decline as a result of Climate Change. Some have and some others will become extinct.

Humanity is not only resilient, it is also genius, because humans have the ability to research and discover not only how to survive Climate Change, and how to assist other animal and plant species to survive Climate Change. But we may have the ability to reverse Climate Change on a global scale? We may develop the ability to influence climate to some degree?  That is real genius in action.

Most humans have the ability to be genius. No other animal or plant species can become genius. They do not have the mental ability. however, we do.

Each of us has a potential. Each of us has a passion. You can use your passion and your potential together to understand and create something special, something unique. 

You can use your genius mind to make a profound difference not only in your life, but the lives of those around you. You can use your genius mind to change the lives of your nation, humanity and planet earth.  You have that ability, now go out and do it.

  • Intensive repetition makes language learning faster. Have fun with it.
  • When you learn a new word repeat it and use it over and over as often as possible in the next hour, the next day and the next week. Imprint it on the mind.
  • Emotion makes learning easier – interaction and conversation is the key.
  • Forget the language classrooms because everyone is at a different level and learning at a different pace.
  • The fastest wayto learn a new language is by immersing yourself into the everyday culture among native speakers. Constantly ask them how to say words and sentences in their language and repeat it out aloud over and over until you get the pronunciation perfect and imprint it in your mind. Then review those new words and phrases daily. Use them all the time, over and over. You will be confident and speaking your new language within months.
  • It may cost more, but the best way to learn a new language quickly is to spend hours everyday with an experienced/professional language tutor. This is because they will teach not only the correct pronunciations, but more importantly … the grammar and vocabulary too.
  • Use technology and learn from a native speaker in online language exchanges. Find someone who wants to learn English from you in exchange for learning their language from them. Get together regularly online.
  • Watching movies in your new language will help to contextualize what you have learned already.
  • Learning songs in your new language can help you remember.
  • Be prepared to discover sometimes there is no word, no direct translation. If that is the case you may need to use the English word in a sentence.
  • People always want to encourage you to learn their language, so they will help with words you don’t know.
  • When traveling carry a pocket dictionary or digital translator on your phone or another device.
  • Keep practicing words and phrases that you can use in everyday language.
  • As your pronunciation improves your grammar will also improve too. Start adding slang, jokes, popular songs as your confidence improves.
  • Challenge yourself to think in the new language.
  • There is always something new to learn.

These are the stages of learning a new language.

  • You learn to speak a little but understand nothing.
  • You can understand far more than you can speak.
  • You become more conversational but your translating everything in your mind.

  • Then you begin to actually think in that language, without effort. Once this happens if becomes even easier. Then you can say you are fluent, but there is always more to learn. For example; I know multi-lingual Singaporean Chinese who admit to me they still have a lot to learn about Mandarin, yet it is their first language.

In some countries the main purpose of Internet in the general population is social media access.

Social media dependency is a behavioral addiction whereby people are driven by an uncontrollable urge to use social media. They devote so much time and effort to social media that it affects their family, study or work, and real life social relationships. They cannot stop, avoid or limit their use.

Teenagers are particularly at risk from social media dependency because they are going through a ‘socialisation stage’ in their lives. They feel a need to ‘connect’ with others beyond their immediate family. Traditionally we did this within our own school and community environment. it came with challenges, which are valuable life learning experiences. 

Social media gives young people an opportunity to play with their identity protected by a screen. While it can have some advantages it can and often does come with disadvantages, even dangers. Sharing gossip can be fun, however it can descend into outright abuse.

Cyber bullying exists within social media. that’s a fact. But the problem is it can become 24/7. The only way to escape it is to withdraw and switch it off.

Some people use social media to create fake identities so they can access young people for their own gratification. They seek to manipulate and control young minds and bodies.

Even within social groups such as school sharing of explicit sexual images and videos is common. Almost every girl receives unsolicited images of boys and men’s ‘junk’ via social media. 

Many people fall victim to ‘mind control’ techniques used by social media companies to keep people engaged on their platform for as long as possible, so that search engines will reward them for their popularity.

Others are attracted to social media because they feel it provides them with something missing in their ‘real lives’, such as ‘like minded’ friendships. Some create make believe profiles with fake photos. Some swap their gender, age or nationality to make themselves appear more attractive. They hide behind their fake identity – something they cannot do in real life. They can then live out an existence as another person. However, it is all fantasy and they run the risk of bribery, manipulation and exposure. There are recorded cases of young people being driven to suicide as a result of these fantasy identities. They have the potential to overtake and ruin lives if allowed to ‘run riot’.

Social media dependency may include:

  • Thinking about it, checking in on social media accounts often, even obsessively.
  • Feeling a need to be relevant.
  • Neglecting real life relationships, study and work ethic.
  • Difficulty focusing on things other than social media.
  • Perhaps feeling restless, anxious, or agitated when unable to access social media.
  • Retreating into social media to escape the realities of real life.
  • Increased social media access use over time to achieve satisfaction and happiness.

As people search for a better exercise regime, martial arts has emerged as a viable option. It caters to people of all walks of life, and of almost any age, making martial arts a viable option. It can be a great physical workout, and an effective boost to mental and spiritual wellness. 

Martial arts encompass the full range of body motion, from every joint and muscle of every limb, not to mention the trunk of the body and head.  Combining aerobic and anaerobic workouts with resistance training, it burns excess fat and builds lean muscle too. It is got for the heart and good for the brain – it makes a person move and think at the same time.

Different martial arts focus on different skill sets, so choose wisely to suit your needs, plus personality, interests and skills set. Think about the right Ryu for you too. Some focus on competition while others focus on skills and techniques.  It is important they also focus on the mental aspects too.

Boxing and Muay Thai emphasis is on both the arms and legs in varying rotary motions. The focus is on strength and speed, which are key components in delivering powerful blows.

All wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu have a focus on core strength, to use the weight of the body to maneuver opponents into various positions. 

Ninjitsu encompasses adaptability and flexibility through the integration of many different techniques, including  shurikenjutsukenjutsusōjutsubōjutsu  and others. Ninjitsu is a fighting system based around joint locks, striking, weapon fighting, and these days particularly – self-defense.

Ninjitsu skills relating to espionage and assassination were highly useful to warring factions in feudal Japan (around 1000 years ago). Traditionally Ninja used non-detection (keeping a low profile), avoidance, and misdirection together with stealth and deception to confuse and escape, hence their typically black keikogi (稽古着) or  dōgi (道着) or keikoi (稽古衣) rather than the traditional white seen with other martial arts.

With regular training a person becomes self-aware of their physical body and how it can move to advantage. The mind develops spatial intelligence. A ‘black belt’ is more than just a collection of skill sets and techniques, it is the mastery of self-awareness and understanding of the body and the mind as a connected system.

Martial Arts have an important role in the preservation of some nation’s intangible cultural heritage in the same way as language dialects, dance, music, rituals, crafts and traditions.

In addition to instruments, objects, artifacts and cultural spaces the Intangible Cultural Heritage includes the practices, representations, expressions, knowledge, skills – such as a countries own Martial Art/s.

All martial arts have a history and provide participants with a sense of identity and continuity from Sensei to student as they progress through their coloured belt system of advancement.

The Chinese character “mu” literally means “to stop fighting” or “to put down weapons.” The word “arts” points to skill, expression of beauty or creativity. “martial arts” means the ending of conflict. Peace is the ultimate goal of martial arts.

The most popular martial arts are;

  • Aikido – Japanese technique is about redirecting the strikes of an attacker with joint locks, throws, and Japanese weapons.
  • Jiu-Jitsu – is grappling and ground fighting. Stikes help move action to the ground.
  • Judo – a sport consisting of Japanese throws, joint locks, and grappling.
  • Jujutsu – a Japanese art that manipulates the power of the attacker, Great for kids.
  • Karate – hand, elbow, and knee strikes, as well as kicks. Hands down the most popular martial arts in the world.
  • Kendo – sword fighting.
  • Sulkendo – it means “the way of the fist that flows like a water” which describes the entire concept of this style.
  • Kickboxing – power kicks and punches.
  • Kung Fu – Chinese martial art with 10 styles. 
  • MMA – mixed martial arts combine boxing, wrestling, karate, and Jiu-Jitsu
  • Muay Thai – Thailand martial art adds elbows and knees, which are not part of kickboxing.
  • Lerdrit – used by the Royal Thai Army’s Palace Guard and other military and police forces. The art has its origins in Muay Thai.
  • Ninjutsu – Japanese ninja. Began among oppressed farmers and became the martial art of assassins and spies as agents of Japanese Feudal Lords.
  • Sumo – Japanese wrestling.
  • Bando –  Burma. Techniques use the names of animals.
  • Silat – Malaysia. Based on hundreds of different fighting styles. Practiced in Vietnam, Laos, and India from around the 3rd century BCE. 
  • Kalaripayattu – Indian martial art with its origins dating back over 3,000 years ago. 
  • Bokator – Cambodian ancient Martial Art used by the armies of Angkor against their enemies 1700 years ago.
  • Taekwondo – Korean kicks, blocks, punches, and open-hand strikes.
  • Tai Chi – techniques in slow motion. This martial art is good for reducing stress and improving balance and health.
  • Kino Mutai is a Filipino self-defense art. This art teaches grappling, pinching, biting to defeat a stronger and bigger attacker in a street fight.
  • Arnis – from the Philippines. Also called kali. Developed as a self-defense against slave traders and invaders (including the Spanish and Japan WW2). They use knives, swords, and rattan sticks, along with blocking, footwork, and disarming maneuvers. Just as poor Japanese farmers developed Ninja using farm tools and improvised weapons along with unarmed techniques in Feudal times, the Filipinos developed Arnis for self-defense along similar lines when the Spanish colonizer’s banned bladed weapons among poor farmers. Instead they developed improvised bladed tools as weapons for protection. Even today people in Palau, use the term chad ra oles, for Filipinos meaning “people of the knife” because of Filipinos’ reputation for carrying knives and using them to fight.

When we think of Martial Arts we tend to think of the Orient. However, there are other Martial Arts beyond Asia.

  • Krav Maga – from Israel. Used by military and police to deal with armed and unarmed opponents,
  • Capoeira – from Brazil. Originating from African slaves it employs rapid dance spins and acrobatic kicks.
  • Sambo – Russian martial art.
  • Chun Kuk Do – developed by TV actor and martial arts expert, Chuck Norris
  • Systema – Russia used by various Special Forces and KGB and modern Spetznaz. 
  • Highland Wresting – from Scotland.
  • Pankration, which roughly translates to “Anything goes” from ancient Greece.
  • Fencing – Swordsmanship from western Europe dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries.
  • Canne – Traditional French self-defense using a walking stick used by upper class to defend themselves in the street from pick pockets and thieves. “Savate” have actually emerged from Canne de Combat. 
  • .Bataireacht – Irish stick fighting.
  • Apache Knife Throwing – the US military employs several trainers of Apache ancestry to teach special forces troops survival and knife fighting.
  • Zulu Nguni – stick fighting.
  • Okichitaw – developed by George J. Lepine in 2002 in Canada influences by Taekwondo, Judo, and Hapkido. It focuses on aggressive hand to hand fighting.
  • Rough and Tumble – or “gouging”. Dirty street fight style without weapons. Biting the opponent, gouging the eyes, throws, strikes to the groin area, and any other dirty and brutal moves. Originating in 18th century USA.

Penis Enlargement Fact and Fiction

Many boys and men are concerned with their penis length and thickness.  They are inclined to think their symbol of virility and manliness does not measure up compared to others. They think a larger penis will make them more attractive and a better lover.

They can work out in the gym to sculpt their body, but there are apparently no exercises at the gym that seem to build a larger penis.

Some compensate for what they perceive as a smaller penis by building a gym body to impress. That is something within their control.

Our genetics are the strongest predictors of our penis size. Not much we can do about that with current technologies, however there are a number of effective things we can do  …. read on.

First let us look into genetics a little further. Y chromosomes carry genes that oversee the development of male genitalia and fertility.

The male hormone testosterone may relate more to length, and growth hormone more to girth of the penis. Length growth stops before late puberty, yet girth may increase slightly following puberty. Men produce testosterone all their lives, yet the penis does not grow in length beyond puberty. Go figure?

Y chromosomes determine the development of the penis and testes but not necessarily penis size. Those characteristics may be dependent on the X chromosome/s.

Hey wait! 

Males inherit one Y chromosome from their male parent and one of two X chromosomes from their female parent. 

Does that mean we inherit our penis size from our maternal grandfather and great grandfathers, not our father? The researchers say, ‘Yes and No’.

When it comes to genetics and penis size it is complicated. Generally, they say, you can expect a boy to turn out more or less like his father (that’s because around 90 per cent of adult men’s penises are somewhere around similar lengths and thicknesses), but mummy’s two X chromosomes are the wild card.

Two brothers with the same parents can be similar or very different. This difference depends on which X chromosome they inherited from their mother. It may influence why penis size, and other traits may vary between brothers who share the same biological parents, when genetic mutations ( Kallmann syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome), hormonal and environmental causes are discounted.

Also, during pregnancy, variations in testosterone levels in the mother to be can cause differences in the development of her male child’s penis as he matures. For example, if she does not produce enough human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) hormone, which stimulates testosterone development in the fetus.

Exposure to environmental pollutants, such as pesticides, plasticizers, and other chemicals, may have a negative effect on penis size. This could occur prenatal or in childhood researchers think. They say the average global penile length has increased by 24 per cent over the past 29 years, a new meta-analysis from Stanford University has concluded.

Researchers compiled data from 75 studies, conducted between 1942 and 2021, that reported on the penile length of 55,761 men. Chemical exposure has also been posited as a cause for boys and girls going into puberty earlier, which can affect genital development.

At the same time, ‘sperm counts’ among men in Western countries had dropped by 59 per cent between 1973 and 2011, and sperm mutations had increased (with a corresponding decrease in fertility rates), according to one meta-analysis of 185 studies involving 45,000 men.

Another small study involving 248 men aged between 18 and 28 found those who were circumcised as an infant seemed to have had their penis size negatively influenced as a result.

So, if you want to increase the length and or thickness of your penis, what can you do with what you have already got to work with?

There are an endless supply of pills, devices, techniques, and surgery for penis enlargement. None of them have been proved successful. While some have short-term results, none work permanently. Some can cause lasting disfigurement. Many are nothing less than scams.

None of these pills are manufactured, tested, or approved by government authorities. We don’t know anything about where they are manufactured, or what chemicals are in them. We place about as much trust in these pills and supplements as some addicts do the illicit drug dealer down the street.

The erectile tissue in a penis is a spongy material called corpus cavernosum. It fills with blood causing an erection. The penis does not contain fat. So be aware of promises that adding fat to the penis with surgery will make it larger. It won’t.

Perhaps you have seen the hypnosis MP3 download web sites where they claim they can direct fat cells into the penis and make it larger, using hypnosis? Those web sites are a scam and give real hypnotists a bad name. Those products do not work. They cannot work because the penis does not contain fat cells.

A registered nurse friend, working in another country, told me how several young military men were admitted into the hospital emergency department at the same time. They had all injected their penises with hardware silicone, usually used for waterproofing bathrooms and kitchens. The physical damage they caused to themselves was so severe they risked amputation. WARNING: Never inject anything into your penis. Never let anyone inject anything into their penis without medical supervision.

Surgeries, performed by unscrupulous ‘get rich quick’ surgeon’s where they inject fat from other parts of the body into the penis can not only disfigure its appearance with lumps (and who wants an ugly penis?) but within months of surgery, the fat can be reabsorbed by the blood and carried away and deposited in other parts of the body. A 2017 review suggests that penile fat grafts may decrease in volume by 20–80 per cent within one year. following surgery. These unscrupulous surgeons legally protect themselves by advising (in the small print) there are no guarantees their expensive penis enlargement surgery is effective.

Ligamentolysis or suspensory ligament division surgery is severing the ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic bone. The idea is to make the flaccid penis hang down further, but it does not increase the actual size of the penis either soft or hard. Patient and partner dissatisfaction rates for this procedure range from 35–70 per cent.

All penis enlargement surgery comes with unacceptable risks, including sexually disabling penile deformity and severe shortening, curvature, edema, subcutaneous masses, infection, non-healing wounds, and sexual dysfunction. 

“Many men seeking elongation (of their penis) actually have normal length penises, but perceive themselves to be small, a psychologic condition termed ‘penile dysmorphophobia”, according to Jeffrey Campbell at the Division of Urology, Western University, London, Ontario, Canada, and Joshua Gillis at the Division of Plastic Surgery, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The American Urological Association considers fat injections and suspensory ligament division procedures to be unsafe and ineffective.

The Penuma procedure  involves the insertion of a crescent-shaped piece of medical-grade silicone under the skin. It is used to enhance flaccid penile length and girth in patients with retractile penis or other cosmetic deformities.

Does it work? Are patients and their partners satisfied? Does it costa lota? For sure it does. Like all cosmetic surgery penis enlargement surgery is expensive.

The Mayo clinic warns that while penis vacuum pumps draw blood into the penis, making them swell temporarily, using one too often or for too long can damage the spongy tissue in the penis, leading to permanent soft ‘limp dick’ erections. This can make penetration difficult and frustrating.

Stretching devices and weights used to stretch the penis can tear the spongy corpus cavernosum material. Claims of growth of one-half inch up to as much as 2 inches in length have been made. The penis is not a muscle. Therefore, it cannot grow in size with exercise in the same way as muscles do. Gyms are filled with guys who are trying to compensate for their small dicks. If there was an exercise available to grow their penis larger, they would all be doing it.

The only possible exercise for penis enlargement is stretching. However, there has been no definitive scientific research to prove stretching actually works.

Puberty usually begins between the ages of 9 and 14 and lasts up to 5 years.

Researchers tell is that the average boys penis growth is about half an inch per year between ages 11 and 15.  By age 18 or 19 it has reached maximum length for the majority. Thickness growth continues a little after that. Having said that, some may continue penis growth for a couple more years. But they are the exception, not the rule.

When it comes to the length of an erect penis what is average? In search of the definitive answer to that question I have read the results of a lot of surveys each conducted within different parameters. The results are about as confused as predicting a US Presidential Election result in May.

But the following rings true. Almost all men measure up somewhere between 5 and 7 inches when measured correctly. (That is along the top as you look down, from the pubic bone to the tip of the penis when fully engorged and about to ejaculate). Logically the number would be about halfway, that is 6 inches. However, surveys suggest the number is much closer to 5 inches. I guess this accounts for self-measurement exaggeration where everyone seems to add an extra half inch or more.

For almost all men the penis size they have at the end of puberty is the size they will have for the rest of their life. But that need not be the case for you.

Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles with Kegel exercises, which are responsible for controlling and restricting the blood flow which causes increased blood pressure. It can potentially stretch the corpus cavernosum and eventually create larger erections. This is because the penis is not just the external/visible structure. That is only half of it. The other half extends inside, almost as far back as the anus. Kegel exercises actually strengthen the ‘root’ of the penis, resulting in better control and responsiveness of the external structure.

I have personally chatted with a few different guys online who say they achieved amazing results with this approach. I recently had a 14-year-old boy tell me he is small ‘down there’. I hope I dispelled concern by telling him “All 14-year-olds and 15-year-olds think they are small ‘down there’. The truth is they are not all going through puberty at the same time, and like our nose’s penises also come in many shapes and sizes. ” I did not ask him what size he is when erect. At his age that is irrelevant, and I think inappropriate. I was more interested in his self-confidence. (concern and embarrassment about changes in the body are a form of body dysphoria in pubescent boys, who witness their bodies developing, and naturally compare themselves to others) He needed to stop comparing himself to videos and images he would have found online, of well-endowed men.

Many guys think they have a small penis, and this then plays upon their confidence and self-esteem. It may impact their sexual performance too. In the locker room, some guys may appear to be larger while flaccid, however, when erect it is about the same size. We call them ‘showers’.  Other guys appear smaller when flaccid. Yet when they are erect their penis is much much larger. We call them ‘growers’.

According to an international Men’s Health survey 79 percent of men are growers while 21 percent are showers.

I am aware some guys appear larger in the showers because they are experiencing a ‘soft on’ (a semi erect penis), because they are excited by being surrounded by other naked bodies.

That takes care of the illusion of an enlarged penis. The physical appearance, when clothed. But how do you look and feel when naked? You can trim or shave your genital pubic hair to help increase the illusion of size. You can flatten that belly fat to help increase the illusion of size. Porn stars are the worst of all. They think nothing of adding a few extra inches to their vital stats.

On the subject of porn stars, remember they use tricks to make themselves appear larger.

  1. Male porn stars are often short. Therefore, their equipment appears larger by comparison to their body.
  2. Their female partners are also small.
  3. They use Viagra and similar medications to ‘get hard and stay hard’ for a scene. 
  4. They use a ‘fluffer’ or vacuum pump.
  5. Camera positions, such as close ups, lenses, lighting are designed to create the illusion of an enlarged penis.
  6. Finally, in the edit room they cut shots that betray the truth.

The promotional stats of these men are not true. Do not be sucked in by the hype, it only builds feelings of inadequacy in you. 

The various published average sized penis research results are conflicted. This is because most are based on self-measurements by participants who exaggerate their own erect size. Other researchers measure the flaccid penis of participants and then assume it’s erect size.

The only accurate results conducted have involved measuring the erect penis of a subject immediately before and again immediately following ejaculation, by researchers – not the participant.  The largest possible sample size possible is required for accuracy. (Covering race and ethnic backgrounds) We are talking about thousands – not hundreds of male participants within any one region.

Where do you find thousands of males prepared to be measured by a researcher immediately following ejaculation? While this procedure has been attempted by researchers it is simply not practical in sufficient numbers to have any meaning.

It is fairly safe to say the average adult male penis is between 5 and 7 inches, across racial groups. Some researchers report the average is therefore 6 inches. Others say the average is closer to 5.

One thing is certain, those men with 7 or more are in the minority. Women generally say that men with 8 or more are uncomfortable, even painful. Oral sex is generally less satisfying, and anal sex is often out of the question for those men. So, at a certain point, more is not better. Anal sex virtuoso’s say smaller is better. 

Generally, and I stress generally – Africans and those men of some African heritage, together with some Latino men seem to be slightly larger on average than say, those of a European background.  And Europeans seem to be slightly larger than those of an Asian and Pacific Islander background. But there are always exceptions. I have seen both smaller African heritage and larger Asian penises when erect.

I have seen studies that suggest Brazilian men of mixed race measure up better than most, while those of the Malay races (read that as Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Filipino and native Taiwanese), and let’s add Korean are often smaller.

Until now there is no ‘magic pill’ that can make your penis grow in length and thickness.  Genetics, surgery and devices have not yet been developed that can change what your ‘mummy gave you’  – your X chromosome DNA.  Perhaps in time, someone may develop a DNA transplant that will give you the genes to develop an enhanced and enlarged penis? But at what price?

We all value loneliness from time to time. Some enjoy the feelings of isolation, and peaceful solitude. I have observed that having grown up in a rural environment with only my immediate family around me, I am happy in my solitude, and can imagine myself being contented in a world with no other people, in truth that may not be true. If I was totally alone, I would eventually go mad. I only need think of hapless Ben Gunn in the Robert Louis Stevenson story of Treasure Island.

 

I have friends who seem to need to have other people around them almost all the time – otherwise they slip into depression quickly.  They need social interaction. They need to hear sounds in the background.

I had been living in suburban Melbourne for years.  Although I was in a beachside suburb there were millions of people around me. I actually felt a little vulnerable to think what might happen if the social fabric were to break down in a pandemic or worse.

I decided to make the move back to the country, establish a vegetable garden and catch fish in the river – a back to my roots ‘sea change’. I found an old farmhouse to rent for just $10 a week located on 50 acres. The King River flowed along one boundary and there was plenty of work available on vineyards in the valley.

Two friends, who came from rural backgrounds moved with me.  The nearest neighbours houses were out of sight. After work we would swim in the river naked. Unspoiled nature surrounded us. We joined two different meditation groups. It was bliss.

A friend came up from Melbourne to stay for the weekend. First thing on Saturday morning he was packing his bags to go home. Why go home so soon? He said the deafening silence kept him awake all night. He had to get back to the unrelentless noise of the city.

Later I married and we bought a farm in the same vicinity. My wife had a friend come to stay from Melbourne. The same thing happened. She acknowledged the beauty of the valley yet felt uneasy and unsafe in our isolation.

Some people prefer rural isolation, they do not feel lonely. Others feel uneasy, unsafe and vulnerable in the country – and feel a need to get back to the city as fast as possible.

Identify what the issues are for you and do something about it. Take control of your life – for the better.

  • Challenge yourself to escape the loneliness vortex by taking small steps, such as chatting to sales staff at retail stores.
  • Get out and about. Go to a park (and share a bench seat), the mall (and chat with sales assistants). Go to a café (and share a table).
  • Get a pet or offer to take care of someone else’s pet. (It is amazing how many people will stop and chat with someone who is walking a dog. You should try it).
  • Accept every invitation which might pull you out of the loneliness spiral.

  • Write a journal. Write poetry. Write a book.
  • Get into a craft or creative endeavor such as art.
  • Join a sporting club.
  • Challenge yourself to learn a musical instrument or a new language.
  • Volunteer to help others.
  • You can use technology, including social media to maintain a connection with your loved ones, the people you feel most connected.
  • You can build new bridges to people who until now you had no connection.
  • You can join social, sporting, religious, political, or ideological clubs and groups who share similar interests to you, thereby connecting with individuals to whom you are attracted.
  • You can contact a helpline in your area to talk to a support worker about how you feel.
  • Be proactive in your own life. Refuse playing the victim. (Actor Gavin MacLeod always played ‘the victim’ role in TV.  He described his character on McHale’s Navy with Ernest Borgnine as a character with only “two lines a week” and was sometimes simply used as a prop: “Sometimes they’d have me stand there. They’d shoot on a back lot, and they’d use me to cover something they didn’t want anybody to see on the back lot.” So he quit the show. Then he won the role of ship’s captain Merrill Stubing on the hit TV series The Love Boat. He then became the confident and dependable hero.

Check your social media and remove any posts that could hurt your reputation.
  • Google search your own name (as your new employer may do as part of their selection process) to see what might be floating around in cyber space that you do not know about.
  • Are there other social media posts or web sites that say something or show photos that you do not want your potential employer looking into?
  • They used to say do not mention religion, politics or relationships (sex). Today social media is full of it. Does any of it refer to you and could be embarrassing or even damaging to your reputation.
  • Search your name under photos and videos too. You never know what might be out there in cyber space until you search.
  • Be prepared to ‘take it down’, if you can, or request someone to do it for you.
  • Otherwise, be prepared to explain it during your job interview if they ask.

Normally you need to identify your new dream job, or a job that will lead to it, create a custom CV, and cover letter that will ensure your best chance of an interview, then when you are happy with it submit.  If possible, avoid phoning or emailing on a Friday or Monday.  (On Friday their minds are on the weekend not you, on Monday they are unhappy to be back at work and they have a backlog of work they did not do on Friday. So, your application will not appeal to them no matter how good you think it is). Mid-week is better because they are in the swing of it.

Winning your new dream job is about having the right positive attitude and approach. Employers are looking for the applicant who has;

  • Your CV must ‘stand-out’ from the crowd, and demonstrate your unique skill set, acumen, background, confidence, and passion that your employer is seeking, without being overbearing or intense.
  • Never never invent qualifications, experience and referees. Keep it real.
  • Researchers tell us the ideal CV is one page, however you must list all relevant qualifications and experience so do not leave them out.
  • Studies indicate they spend as little as 8 seconds looking at your CV, so use bullet points and an easy-to-read layout.
  • Obviously, spell check your CV and get someone to proofread it for logic and grammar errors.
  • A study at Wichita State University found that people associate Times New Roman and Arial with stability, while Courier New and Georgia represent maturity.
  • Keep your CV succinct. Use short sentences. Word perfect. Avoid rambling. Include a brief personal summary to sell your skills and achievements. Use real examples, that can be backed up, to impress your potential employer.
  • All the jobs you have listed on your CV need accurate dates. Avoid leaving any unexplained gaps.
  • Tailor your application to your dream job. Give your potential new employers a little introduction to your personality.  
  • They are looking for the person who shares their corporate values, vision, and ethos. Do your own due diligence and demonstrate to them through your application, personal web site, social media, and CV that you are that person.
  • Be aware they will look at your professional and personal social media activity, so clean it up now. Remove any and all political, religious, aggressive, or disrespectful posts. See https://www.scrubber.social.
  • Some recruitment experts advise including your social media links as a way to add another layer of depth to your application.
  • Deliver a custom CV and personalized application letter to every prospective employer. DO NOT copy and paste applications from one to another, unless you are not interested in being awarded the job.
  • Think about the file name on your CV. Demonstrate that you are detail-orientated enough to have given the file a professional-looking name.
  • The email account you send your CV from should be your name, not <fluffy.duck69> or worse.
  • Never ask about renumeration in your first interview. Let them whittle down applicants until you are in the final few. Then ask.
  • When you get to the final interview have your CV printed in colour on quality paper in a professional folder to leave with them.
  • Highlight your achievements – not job descriptions. They want to hear about your outstanding awards, promotions, sales figures, and targets won.
  • Research the business as much as they will research you,. Speak their language – use their industry jargon and terminologies back at them. Make them feel that you are already one of the team.
  • When you are given the opportunity to ask questions stay away from the stock standard questions everyone has already asked them that day. If you go down that well-trodden path, you will soon be lost forever in their eyes.
  • Be ready to ask probing questions about what they talked about – dig deeper.
  • Or stand out from the crowd by asking questions based on their listed responsibilities for the position you are being interviewed for. If possible, an area you feel you are interested in and perhaps experienced in – so they can recognise your interest and potential value.
  • When asked if you have any questions, you are being given a ‘golden’ opportunity to show that you are the ideal person for the job.  Truth is, you may already know the answers, but you are demonstrating your superior suitability over other applicants.
  • When they are assessing all the applicants, they interviewed you want them to be talking about you, and how impressed they were with your intelligent, relevant question.
  • It is normal to feel anxious before your interview. Yet, it is better to also feel quietly confident (not ‘cocky’).

  • More jobs are awarded to people through word-of-mouth, so networking is very, very important.
  • In many countries it is illegal for employers and potential employers to ask you questions about certain subjects. They include age, marital status. sexual preference, religion, race, gender, your personal opinion of work colleagues, past legal and health problems. I am aware that some employers do not employ drug users, tobacco smokers or heavy drinkers. Employees may be  subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Synonyms for the words new job include; profession and vocation and employment or job. Also livelihood or position, some say ‘what you do?’ Of course career and career trajectory or career advancement. Maybe professional advancement or 5-year plan or 10-year plan and course. study or  orbit or function or role or position or post or assignment or contract, or  contractor or business or duty or task or gig and posting. 

Many years ago I had a young woman come to me, so she must have realized something was wrong. She told me she wanted a position as a women’s clothing boutique manager. I asked her what position she was already working in the fashion industry. She said “I have never worked in the industry. I do not have a job. I have never had a job since leaving school.”

“Alright. It is good to have a plan of action. First you need to get in the door. Perhaps as a sales assistant. Learn the job and strive to be the best you can.”

“No. I wont do that.” She said. “I want to be the boss. I want to be the manager – not a sales assistant. I wont do that.”

“Hmmm … are you saying you want someone who owns a boutique to give you a managerial position from day one, with no experience at all?” I asked.

“Yes, of course,” she replied with indignation.

“So, what makes you think someone should risk their business in your hands?” I asked.

“My father told me I am a gift to anyone. If I want it, I can have it. I want to be a manager of a fashion boutique. So I want you to hypnotize me so I can get my dream job.”

“I see. is your father in the fashion business?” I asked and then added. “It can certainly help if you know the right people.”

“My father knows nothing about fashion. He is a plumber.”

The young lady had listened to her loving father repeat statements based more in love for his daughter than real world fact. She actually believed him.

As a young plumbers apprentice he would have worked for years with minimal pay to learn the job from the ground up. He would have attended trade school to learn the more technical aspects of his chosen career. For him it was a planned strategy of preparation to eventually become a fully qualified and licensed plumber.

He demonstrated his passion for the job over a period of years. He had the emotions and the self talk to keep going and work his plan.  Through experience he developed the professional skills and knowledge.

Truth is he had done her a misdeed by incorrectly telling her she could do anything she wanted without working for it. Without education or experience.

I could have taken her money by doing as she wanted, by hypnotizing her to believe fashion boutique owners would give her a managerial position, without any experience in the industry. However, she already believed that just because her father had told her she could do anything.

Instead, I advised her to go get a job as a junior sales assistant (in any retail outlet that would employ her) before she got any older, and gain experience, and make valuable networking contacts. Therefore, working her way up toward her goal in achievable steps, just as her father had done as an apprentice plumber.

She was unhappy with what I had to tell her, although it was true. I guess, in time she would realise I gave her good, truthful advice. Perhaps she was aware I believe in ‘manifesting’ however I am pragmatic too.

No boutique owner would ever come knocking on her door and say, “I was just walking through your neighborhood and a gut feeling told me that you are the person I have been looking for my entire life. Let me offer you your new dream job as manager of my boutique.”

This is how it happens when you manifest your new dream job. A true story.

When I was aged 22 I worked on the front desk of one of the top international hotels in Melbourne. I was the young man in a formal suit who greeted people as they came to reception. In the job I met many world-famous celebrities and had a few embarrassing ‘incidents’ such as a Hollywood movie star making a sexual pass at me when we were alone in the elevator. But the truth is, I was painfully unhappy in my job because my immediate boss disliked me and made my job a living hell. I wanted out.

At the same time I was a volunteer in a government sponsored rescue service. One of their headquarters staff was transferring to the police force and his position was becoming vacant, so I decided to apply for my dream job.

I had already attended relevant courses and already had a very good reputation in the headquarters, so I was confident. My job interview went well – I knew the two interviewers. I felt my dream job was mine.

However, as the weeks went by following my interview, I heard nothing. There was not a hint from the interviewers although I saw them from time to time. I put that down to their professionalism.

I remained confident and expectant I would win my new dream job. I constantly energised my new dream job with positive expectation. I never once had any doubt. (Interest and enthusiasm in my job at the hotel had died.  Energetically I had already left the room).

Suddenly, from out of the blue I got the phone call. “Are you available and when can you start?” “Monday” I enthusiastically replied.

Apparently, they had awarded the job to someone else. But somehow it did not work out. I was second on the list, so I got the call. I was confident my dream job was mine all along, and it was.

I felt absolutely elated when I submitted my resignation from the hotel. I was vindicated because my immediate boss, who had relied on me to ‘carry him through’ was suddenly faced with doing his job without my support. 

‘Swim faster or sink’ I said as I walked out the door for the last time.

I had the great advantage of knowing the organisation from the inside, and the people who would make the eventual hiring decision. Of course, you likely will not have that advantage.

How To Be Number One in Poll Position

However, there is a little-known method for winning an advantage over other applicants.

Get known by the recruiter or a hiring manager BEFORE you submit your application, perhaps even before the job is advertised.

Recruiters will often take the easy pathway by looking at suitable applicants they already have on their books before they go to the next step and advertise. You can potentially put yourself in front of their minds when recommending applicants for an interview to the employer. 

If you have a company or companies in mind as your target employer call and ask who does their job recruitment. But first check out their web site, the information may be there already (usually way down at the bottom of the title page in tiny font size).

Put together your CV and a cover letter and submit it early (but not on a Friday or Monday) so it is in the system, on their desk, before the job vacancy is handed to them to fill. Bye-the-way, offer to be available on the phone for a chat or to come in for a face-to-face meeting. Chatting on the phone or meeting makes a hell of a difference. I did not tell you this, however some people actually arrange a ‘chance meeting’ with the recruiter in a social situation. (In the NLP world they say some people need contact up to 6 times before they feel comfortable. But do not overdo it). You can help to make their job easier and beat the other potential applicants.

It is as if you are racing in Formular One, and you are in poll position, way ahead of the pack.

If possible, do as I did and get known by the people on the ground, inside the company or organisation.

Do you know people, perhaps people with some influence or inside knowledge, inside the company or organisation? How can you get to know them and make a good impression, perhaps through their social, hobby or sporting interests? The smartest applicants are always building relevant networks.

It has the potential to short-circuit hundreds of disappointing job applications that seem to evaporate before your very own eyes.

Your New Dream Job Strategy

Here is a giveaway technique for dramatically improving your chances of winning your ideal job at the next interview. I assume you are suitably qualified and experienced for the position, and just want to put yourself at the top of the list in your potential new employer’s mind.

It is hypnotic influencing method and goes like this;

  1. On the day of the interview wear appropriate clothes for the position you seek. It is usually better to over dress rather than under dress.
  2. As you make the usual pleasantries with the interviewing employer practice ‘matching and mirroring’ without making it too obvious.
  3. Speak at the same (or similar) pace as the interviewer. Reflect how they speak back to them in a way that will make them feel comfortable about you. If they speak quickly, then so should you. On the other hand, if they speak slowly you should slow it down to their pace. Let them feel that you are much the same as you in many different ways. If they speak softly, do the same.
  4. Before the employer gets started on their own questions ask them:                          “The job I’m here about today sounds …. just like me. So …. I know what is expected of me, can you run through a typical day and tell me what ….. I will be doing in more detail, and what you expect from me ….. from the ….. start of my work here?”
  5. The employer wants to talk about the business and  … your role in it. So they will invariably start telling you all the things ….. you will be doing in the job throughout a typical day. Use your own body language to show your interest and encouragment. (leaning forward, arms open, a smile, a nod of understanding and friendly agreement)
  6. The employer will, of course be mentally putting you ALREADY in the job, ALREADY working among the rest of the employees and company clients, etc.
  7. And so, while it seems like a harmless question for the boss to answer – by answering it the employer is essentially mentally ACCEPTING and picturing (and almost selling) themselves on you actually having the job.

Later when assessing applicants, you will stand out in front of the others in the employer’s mind.

Tips for a successful video interview.

  • Have a neutral yet authentic background. Free from distractions. Avoid anything that moves, including curtains blowing in the wind.
  • Wear professional attire, what you would normally wear in a face-to-face interview.
  • Get your devices and programs ready well before the interview. That also means getting children and pets out of the room. No distractions.
  • Use positive body language. Sit up straight, Use eye contact. Smile.
  • Focus and pay attention., You should not need to ask the interviewer to repeat their questions.
  • Engage with the interviewer. Show interest and be prepared to ask intelligent/relevant questions.
  • Stay on topic by keeping your answers and questions concise and relevant.
  • Discuss how you overcame challenges in your previous positions.
  • Demonstrate how you were involved in innovative way to improve business, and how you can bring these acquired experiences and skills to this role. 
  • When asked about your current or past jobs never blame or complain. Always remain positive and upbeat.
  • Never gossip. They are looking for a team player.
  • If asked a tricky question never reply with ‘UmmmArr‘ or stoney silence. Instead say ‘Good question. Let me think about that’.
  • Research everything you can before the interview about the company and the position you are applying to fill.
  • Let them know what can you bring to the company? How can you be of value to them?
  • At the end of the interview, when asked ‘Do you have any question’s?” Be prepared with intelligent relevant questions but stay away from the usual – be unique and memorable.
  • Be compelling. Be interesting. Be professional.
  • If they use phrases such as ‘work hard, play hard’, ‘fast-paced environment’, or ‘must handle pressure well’ they could be red flags, unless you thrive on stress.

survey from Resume Builder found 4 in 10 companies use artificial intelligence (AI) to “talk with” candidates in job interviews. Of those companies, 15 per cent said hiring decisions are be made with no human input. If that is true it is scary. 

Employers who use AI systems for recruitment claim they are used to cross quotidian tasks off a recruiter’s daily schedule; AI helps weed through the top 1,000 applicants, but once they get down to the final 10, it becomes a human process.

Experts advise job applicants to act as if they are speaking to a human during AI-led interviews, although that is easier said than done. 

Ty lives in Washington DC in the USA. Following his AI lead interview he said, “It was creepy.”

Ty found himself talking to a computer-generated ‘Siri’ voice over the phone. Although it tried to pass itself off as a living, breathing human the interviewer was obviously a robot with a rather rude habit. It asked Ty all the right questions – what’s your management style? are you a good fit for this role? – but it would cut Ty off before he could answer the questions.

“After cutting me off, the AI would respond, ‘Great! Sounds good! Perfect!’ and “Let’s move on to the next question,” Ty said. “After the third or fourth question, the AI just stopped and told me that the interview was over.” 

It did not give him time to answer the questions and it did not give him any opportunity to ask the robot questions. What is worse, the robot claimed to be human, which it obviously was not. Ty found it was disturbing and an insult to his intelligence.

Adele Walton, is a 24-year-old journalist and content creator from Brighton, England. She recently sat through an on screen AI interview that felt extremely unnatural. “I expected a person or a panel,” she said.

Instead, questions flashed on the screen that showed her own face. She was given 60 seconds to answer, with a countdown clock.  “In an in-person meeting, you get more social prompts from the other person,” she said. “In this case, I was just talking to myself with no measure of how I was doing. I couldn’t read anyone’s face, body language, or see them nod yes. That type of human reassurance that you get in a real interview is completely lost when companies outsource interviews out to AI.”

Watching her own face as she answered, and the countdown clock were a total distraction which made her feel uncomfortable.

Higher-ups in the corporate world rarely apply for jobs – at a certain pay grade, they network instead. Lower-level job applicants will see more and more AI interviews.

Human Resources (HR) is the poor cousin in the corporate world. If they can cut budgets anywhere it starts in HR.  If it is perceived a robot can do the tasks of a human, and it is cheap, they will use it. 

In the future these AI robot interviewers will have access to all your online personal details. They will know more about you during your interview than almost everyone you know. So, you must be prepared for it.

If you find yourself facing an AI robot interview on the phone or the screen (perhaps one day they will be ‘face to face’ AI holographic projections). just relax and be yourself. Behave exactly as you would if it were a real human and keep your responses brief and to the point.

Sometimes face-to-face interviews with a real, breathing, human can go wrong too.

I was on a train on my to work in a clinic when I overheard a young man talking on his phone. He was apparently returning from a job interview and was very upset. about what had happened.

He had been told he would not be accepted for the position because he had visible tattoos on his neck. He could not understand how that would impact his position in sales for the company. He might have been the perfect candidate for the job, but his tattoos were a ‘No No’ as far as his potential employer was concerned.

If you have tattoos cover them up. wear long sleeves if that will hide them. Do not reveal them until you are well established and beyond any probation period in your job.

Talking about probation, if you have any criminal record – be upfront about it. They may do a search, so better you get in first. Be prepared to explain that it was a mistake in your past and you except it now as a valuable learning experience. Outline how you are repaying society by volunteering and doing community service. (If you are not, you should be) Sometimes employers will let people with a record, even jail to prove themselves – and give them the job. They will respect you for being upfront about it. Just don’t boast. Say it, reply briefly to questions, and move on.

If you did the crime and paid with time, you should be able to earn a dime.

No matter you should be volunteering in some community service as part of your Resume. If you do not know how or where to go – ask your local municipal office for directions.

Be up front and honest during your interview.

I had just completed a full season growing tobacco. Picking was a complete success; we beat the frosts. Winter was fast approaching. I did not want to spend another winter in the snow pruning grape vines. So, I applied for a job in a nearby factory where they manufactured material and dyed it and printed it for milliners.

First, I sat through timed tests to determine my recognition of colours and patterns. At my next interview I was told I had the top score among the applicants. How many applicants were there? No idea, although I know there was at least one other.

I did not tell the guy interviewing me that I had just completed a season in the tobacco fields, perhaps I should have? My ear canals were packed full of beautiful, rich, plantation soil. Then he may have realised I had not heard half the things he was saying to me. I was trying to lip read him, but I knew I had failed because of the strange facial expressions he had as I replied to what I thought he had said.

However, when I went out to the factory floor where everyone was wearing headphones and helmets with goggles – I could clearly hear them shouting at each other.

They pointed out guys in what looked like radioactive white suits with breathing apparatus inside a concrete bunker.  They explained the chemicals they used when mixed could be explosive and if directly exposed to the skin, or inhaled, could be carcinogenic. 

I quickly realised the money they paid was not worth the risk to my immediate and long-term health, so I politely refused the job.

“But you are a volunteer fireman. Surely you don’t mind at all?”

Just as well I refused because within days, I won a contract with a multinational company that paid incredible money (for hard work). I was able to buy a four-wheel drive vehicle and build a two-story house as a result.

I never picked tobacco or pruned grape vines again. Rumor mongers in the local bar said I was growing marijuana crops and that was where all my money was coming from, I laughed. If only they knew I manifested my dream job.
