Description
To live a long life free from feeling older and frail is a state of mind and body. Of course we are all aging over time, but we do not have to feel ‘aged and frail’.
As a therapist, I have people come to me to deal with various issues, often around abuse of alcohol and drugs. They may be 10, 15 or 20 years younger than I am. Yet, they often look and feel older. Many are taking prescription drugs for aliments such as ‘depression’, ‘anxiety’, ‘high blood pressure’ and ‘high cholesterol’. These and other health conditions and their medications cause advanced aging and frailty. Yet, by changing to a healthy diet, exercise routine and healthy mind set you can often overcome each of these aliments drug free!
The most important change is attitude.
In the same way, we see people who are older, perhaps 10, 15 or 20 years more, and they look great! They feel great! While you could put that down to ‘clean living’ or ‘good genetics’, maybe it is a state of mind, or a combination?
My own mother lived through the ‘Great Depression’ of the 1930’s. She was a nurse during and after the Second World War. Born in 1924, she is almost 100 years. Yet she is sound of mind and does much of her own housework. She makes her own bed every morning, cleans, washes her dishes. She refuses to take medications, or wear make-up, as much as possible. Medical personal are surprised she is free from diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. She is always positive and plans for the future. She looks forward to reaching the ripe old age of 100 this year. Disease and frailty are not on her mind.
Good genes, healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude are the keys to her living a long life free from feeling older and frail.
True, she does not and never has smoked tobacco or drank alcohol. She eats very little red meat but enjoys her dairy. She wears bright colours, and cannot understand why women wear black. (It was always worn by women who were morning the death of a family member).
I do not for a moment suggest older people dress up ‘mutton as lamb‘ but the following are just some of the things that make older people look and feel even older than they really are.
- Grey hair. Some people colour their hair in an effort to make themselves look younger. Yet it can be a disaster, making them look ridiculous. Remember the craze when old women used a purple or pink hair rinse? When younger I looked forward to a few grey hairs because it would suggest maturity and knowledge in my profession.
- Hair styles. My mother naturally has straight hair, but she thinks curls are wonderful. So, she has her hair set or permed regularly. Sometimes men, somewhere around my own age still have their 1970’s long hair. Really?
- Old style clothes. If you want to look old you can wear old style clothes out and about to confirm it. Or you can wear something neutral which does not define your age.
- Heavy makeup. In an effort to disguise skin blemishes or wrinkles some lady’s plaster on makeup so think it looks simply awful. Frankly they look like drag queens.
- Tobacco and sun damaged skin. A lifetime of tobacco smoking will dry out and crack the skin. That is a sign of old age. Get some fresh air into you.
- Lingo and phrases. Over time language changes. Some words fall out of favor. Some disappear. If younger people have no idea what you are talking about because the words you often use are no longer spoken or understood by people – you are from a time forgotten. Update your vocabulary.
- Music tastes. Same applies to music and popular culture. Music boosts the endorphins in our brain, so use music to make yourself feel great.
- Closed mind. Resistance, even disapproval to change. Time marches on and almost everything is changing. We are living in the second decade of a new millennium. The mid 20th century is only a memory. JFK is no longer the US President. Update your thinking.
- Computers, smartphones and social media. If you do not know how to access social media using a lap top computer, smart phone or tablet – learn how. Internet access will change your life and how you communicate.
- Posture. In spite of the aches and pains stand up straight. Stretch those ligaments and muscles several times a day. Become more flexible.
- I strongly recommend you do some weight training so your muscles cannot atrophy. Older people lose muscle mass so use it or you will lose it.
- Practicing standing on one foot for 30 seconds at a time, every day, to improve your balance while you still can. But be ready to grab on to something before you fall.
- Look after your diet. Too many older people fail to eat regular healthy meals.
- Challege yourself mentally and physically. Push your boundaries and change your routine.
- What about gardening? Growing your own vegetables? Take a Yoga or meditation class.
- Community groups are desperate for volunteers. They may welcome you with open arms. Your municipal office will have a list of community organisations. Get involved because the benefits are worth the effort.
- Check your medications with your prescribing doctor, or even visit a different doctor to make sure you are only taking what you need. Nothing more and nothing less. I remember as a boy aged somewhere around 10, siting at the breakfast table of my aunt and uncle. My cousins were sitting around eating as my uncle shaved at the table. Everyone ignored him, but I thought that was strange. Perhaps because I was watching him, he proceeded to show me each of his medication pills and explain what they were for. ‘I take this red pill for my heart and this blue pill for my gout,’ he said. ‘This yellow pill is for my anxiety and the green pill is for my depression. Darling,’ he said as he turned to his wife who was washing dishes at the sink. ‘What do I take the white pill for?’ He took so many pills he did not know why he took them. He would have been 25 years younger than I am now, and I still take no medications. My parents did not take any medications, so his pride in the many medications he was taking was strange to me. In the end his medications killed him.
- Join a club or hobby activity where you must get up and go out of the house.
- Meet new people and build your circle of friends who have similar interests.
- If the club or hobby activity has younger people, there – all the better.
The deep unconscious mind is the ‘foreman’ of our physical metabolism. In other words, our deep unconscious ‘runs the body’. It is also the creator of emotions such as anxiety.
There was an old man telling a boy about a fight between a wolf and a dog. “Which one do you think won the fight?” he asked the boy. “I don’t know” replied the boy.
“The one YOU feed*” said the old man.
If the input information we feed our own deep unconscious mind through our self-talk is constantly negative, such as “I am getting older and frail”, then it will deliver both in the mind and body. If we were to adopt a ‘healthier live style’, at any age, we can make a difference. If we adopt a ‘healthier mind set’, at any age, we can make a difference too.
Right now, you can do the following to set yourself up for a longer, healthier life.
- “When you exercise, the blood flows to the brain carrying extra oxygen and nutrients to the neurons. With regular physical exercise, you’ll see and feel improvements in memory, attention and the speed in which you can process information.” says Sabina Brennan, author of ‘Beating Brain Fog’.
- Mentally challenge yourself with puzzles and games every day. Read new interesting information that expands your knowledge. Learn new skills, even a new language. All these activities and more create new neurological connections in the brain. They help to prevent atrophy, and potentially ward off dementia.
- The Mediterranean diet is recognized as one of the healthiest in the world. It includes plenty of garlic and onions. The Japanese live even longer. Both diets are high in fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans and whole grains. These have been shown to improve thinking, memory and general brain health.
- Brain fog is a manifestation of inflammation or the chronic stress response. As a therapist for almost 30 years, I have often seen people suffer from anxiety also complain of poor memory. I firmly believe stress and anxiety cause brain fog, fragility of mind and even death. I recommend everyone treat their stress before it becomes anxiety.
- Kamini Krishnan is a neuropsychologist at the Cleveland Clinic. She says, “We recommend people take 30-minute breaks, before they start to feel tired, by doing some kind of focused activity such as walking or listening to music.”
- We need both quantity and quality of sleep. The amount of sleep we need depends on several factors including age and lifestyle. However, we all need enough uninterrupted sleep to experience the deep sleep stage called theta, several times during the sleep process. There are MP3 download meditation’s at Internet Hypnosis dot Shop designed to help you reach that level of sleep quickly. Download it and use it daily to promote better mental health.

Good/Bad Homer
Just like Homer Simpson, we all have those intrusive thoughts from time-to-time. If we choose to listen to them and tag them with emotion, they can become more powerful. When we add self-talk – they can grab control by becoming deep unconscious beliefs. These beliefs drive our behaviors. We call automatic behaviors – habits. And, they can infect our metabolism too, by reflecting within the body our most dominant thoughts. As a result our emotional feelings become our physical feelings.
So which thoughts do you choose to listen too? The ‘good’ which are focused upon happiness and health? Or, the ‘bad‘ which are focused upon past worry and ill health?
The Welcome Life Free From Feeling Older and Frail affirmations are a resource to deliver targeted messages to your deep unconscious up to 1200 times a day. That’s powerful enough to change deep unconscious thinking, therefore beliefs and behaviors!
The more the Welcome Life Free From Feeling messages Older and Frail are repeated over and over, the more they are uncritically accepted by the deep unconscious. If you listen to the Welcome Life Free From Feeling Older and Frail MP3 while sleeping, on ‘repeat’ or ‘loop’ your unconscious mind will hear this message almost 400 times every night. You could listen to the ‘Environmental – Lake waves’ or ‘Environmental Rain’ MP3’s while sleeping. Or, you could choose to also listen to the ‘Pleasant piano and guitar melody’ and ‘Country music’ or the ‘Zumba’ – Latin style dance music during the day. Your deep unconscious would then hear the affirmations repeated around 800 – 1200 times, while your logical conscious mind would hear it around 60 – 90 times. That’s powerful because a message repeated enough will become a new unconscious belief.
Also, because we all have different listening preferences, Welcome Life Free From Feeling Older and Frail has a choice of foreground variants for you to choose from. ‘Click here’ to hear samples.
