The No Phone Phobia or Nomophobia is ‘the new kid on the phobia street’.
Although it may have occurred from time-to-time for a few people since the invention of the landline telephone, it has really boomed in popularity since Apple introduced the Smartphone complete with Social Media, Apps and camera. It is now so much more than a simple ‘no phone’ phobia.
Do you carry your phone with you everywhere so you can stay in touch?
Do you sleep with your phone nearby?
Do you get agitated when the battery goes flat or you have ‘No Service Available’?
Do you panic when you cannot find your phone?
No Phone Phobia or Nomophobia has exploded across the world just as fast as the use of Smartphones.
Over a decade ago, back in 2008 a study by the United Kingdom Post Office found that almost 53 per cent of mobile phone users in Britain become anxious when they either;
- have a flat phone battery
- run out of available credit or load
- are out of range of a cell
- have no network coverage, or
- misplace or lose their mobile phone
- Others become anxious when they enter places where phone use is restricted or banned, such as hospitals, classrooms, and aircraft.
Smartphones are now more widely used across the world. According to BankMyCell.com 66.53 per cent of people world-wide now own a mobile cell device.
Sufferers of nomophobia or no phone phobia may be inclined to experience feelings of rejection, loneliness, insecurity, and low self-esteem because they are looking for reassurance through their phone. Many may fear they are missing out (FOMO) on the latest.
Or, they may have an extroverted personality and naturally use their mobile phone to excess. Others may have an existing social phobia or social anxiety disorder, or social anxiety, and panic attack disorders and depend upon their phone to avoid face-to-face communications.
As with other phobias the fear of having no phone may consist of any or all of the following criteria:
- the persistent fear of an object or situation. In this case having no phone.
- exposure to the fear provokes an immediate anxiety response.
- sufferers recognise the fear is excessive, unreasonable or irrational (this is not always the case with children).
- exposure to a situation where there may be no phone is most often avoided altogether or is endured with fear and dread.
- the fear interferes significantly with daily activities (social, familial, occupational, etc.) including, in some extreme cases, leaving the home.
- symptoms last for at least six months.
- anxiety, panic attacks or avoidance cannot be accounted for by another mental disorder.
- shortness of breath,
- rapid shallow breathing,
- irregular heartbeat,
- excessive sweating,
- dry mouth,
- inability to articulate words or sentences,
- feeling to run-away
- feeling faint and possible panic attacks
The feelings of dread are very real for the sufferer because the unconscious mind has activated an instinctive fear reaction. The reaction is either ‘freeze or flight’.
Synonyms of the word phobia include; anxiety, aversion, distaste, dread, loathing, obsession, panic, resentment, revulsion, avoidance, detestation, disgust, dislike, fear, hatred, irrationality, neurosis, repulsion and terror.
Our deep unconscious mind is supposed to seek out threats and assess the level of danger to protect us. Sometimes it thinks the level of threat and danger is worse than it is in reality. If the irrational fear or phobia results in a panic attack, it is the panic attack which is the real threat. The phobic reaction has failed its purpose because it is not protecting at all. It is the danger because the sufferer cannot focus and think clearly.
Meanwhile the logical and analytical, executive conscious part of the mind knows that almost all dogs love humans. Some can be harmful because they have been trained as guard dogs. But they are a minority, and should be on a chain or under the control of their handler.
Some old out-dated phobia treatments were called ‘desensitisation’. It involved exposing the sufferer to the object of their fear over and over again. This most often caused abreactions — a type of catharsis.
.Abreactions are strong, often disturbing emotional and even physical reactions to something re-experienced from the past, as if real. Abreactions could re-traumatize rather than achieve the desired healing, particularly if there is no experienced therapist present to ‘rescue’ the patient (when listening to an MP3 at home for example).
Sigmund Freud and Josef Breuer used hypnosis to assist patients to recall and relive traumatic experiences from their past which had been repressed by the unconscious for protection. Freud then abandoned this therapy approach. Psychoanalyst Carl Jung expressed interest in abreactions as a possible way to purge trauma, but later decided it had serious limitations. Science fiction writer and founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard had observed abreactive therapy in a Navy hospital. He then wrote about it in his book Dianetics, claiming it as his own invention. Truth is, it had fallen out of favour long before he picked it up. Some psychologists are experimenting with technology, such as VR goggles, to use ‘cyber desensitisation’ which still persists in causing abreactions.
Welcome Life Beyond Fear of No Phone subliminal messages are abreaction free, so you can rest assured you are safe.
When ‘Welcome’ subliminal affirmations are used to ‘lock-in’ the deep unconscious shift achieved following one-on-one therapy with Peter Zapfella the results can be nothing less than miraculous.
The more the Welcome Life Beyond Fear of No Phone messages are repeated over and over, the more they are uncritically accepted by the deep unconscious. If you listen to the Welcome Life Beyond Fear of No Phone MP3 while sleeping, on ‘repeat’ your unconscious mind will hear this message almost 400 times every night. If you were to listen to the ‘Environmental – Lake waves’ MP3 while sleeping, you could choose to also listen to the ‘Pleasant piano and guitar melody’ and/or the ‘Zumba’ – Latin style dance music during the day. Then your deep unconscious would hear the affirmations repeated around 800 – 1200 times, while your logical conscious mind would hear it around 60 – 90 times. That’s powerful because a message repeated enough will become a new unconscious belief.
Also because we all have different listening preferences, Welcome Life Beyond Fear of No Phone has a choice of foreground variants for you to choose from. ‘Click here’ to hear samples.
