Quit Marijuana Dependency

Quit Marijuana Dependency. Quit Cannabis Dependency

Marijuana has been used in various religions and cultures throughout the world for perhaps thousands of years. It has become increasingly popular as both a social drug and a recognized medication for many aliments. Cannabis has a proven track record in fighting pain, reducing nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy, and muscle spasms. The efficacy of cannabis in treating neurological problems, including multiple sclerosis (MS), epilepsy is as yet unproven. However its use for treating MS is approved in at least ten countries. It is used to treat pain relief, muscle spasms, nausea from cancer chemotherapy, poor appetite and weight loss caused by chronic illness, such as HIV, seizure disorders and Crohn’s disease, and other’s.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is the primary chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects. THC stimulates the brain to produce dopamine, creating mild euphoria and well being.

It is usually consumed as either;

  • Marijuana − the dried leaves of the cannabis plant is smoked. This is the most common form.
  • Hashish and Hash Oil – the dried plant resin that is smoked or added to food.
  • Cannabis can also come in synthetic form, which may be more harmful than real cannabis.

It is then used in either:

  • a marijuana cigarette (joint),
  • a pipe (chillum),
  • a water pipe (bong),
  • vaporizers,
  • cannabis oil tinctures,
  • cannabis oil edibles.

Cannabis affects everyone differently, based upon:

  • Weight and health of the user.
  • Body metabolism requires more drug to achieve a ‘high’ the more it is used.
  • The side-effects of other drugs, including alcohol used around the same time.
  • The quantity used.
  • The strength of the drug used.

The negative short-term effects of marijuana use include:

  • Possible hallucinations,
  • Possible dizziness,
  • Sensory distortion,
  • Impaired co-ordination,
  • Slower reaction time.

The legal status of marijuana is inconsistent across different jurisdictions: from freely available to all adults, through to long jail sentences or even the death sentences in others. Possession is legal or effectively legal in Uruguay, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Czech Republic, Portugal, Alaska, Colorado, Washington state, Oregon and others. While China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, France, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have the strictest cannabis laws.

The longer term negative side effects of marijuana may include:

  • Suppression of the immune system,
  • Increased colds, bronchitis, etc.
  • Apathy, drowsiness,
  • Lack of motivation,
  • Personality and mood changes,
  • Schizophrenia in some younger users,
  • There is no proof cannabis has caused people to die from a disease caused by smoking it.

Smoking cannabis can also cause:

  • Sore throat (short term)
  • Bronchitis
  • Asthma
  • Cancers (caused by tobacco if mixed and smoked)

Some long term users develop a psychological dependency upon marijuana. They usually also suffer from other psychological problems including trauma, anxiety or depression. They often smoke tobacco, drink alcohol and may use other drugs too. “… cannabis users were also much more likely to be tobacco cigarette smokers- 84% of those in our heaviest cannabis use group (who reported having used cannabis at least 50 times by age 15) had smoked cigarettes more than 20 times in their life, compared to just 5% of those who had never used cannabis.” University College London and University of Bristol (Ref:http://www.bristol.ac.uk/alspac/participants/coco90s/ and http://www.theguardian.com/science/sifting-the-evidence/2016/jan/14/does-cannabis-really-lower-your-iqCMP=fb_gu)
